BREAKING: Tinubu makes 2 new appointments in INEC structure, details emerge

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Saseyi Feijimi Ibiyemi as the Electoral Commissioner (REC) and Ondo State Representative to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Tinubu appointed Ibiyemi to replace the late Niya Ijalaye, a former INEC REC in Ondo who died in August while serving at the Electoral Commission in Ogun State.

In a statement, Bayo Onanuga noted that Ibiyemi, who is currently the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Lagos State, has an impressive educational background, having graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and obtained a Masters in Electoral Management from Bingham University in Nasarawa State.

Tinubu appoints INEC REC for North West

Meanwhile, the president Tinubu also appointed Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur, a seasoned professional with more than two decades of experience in electoral operations, as the National Electoral Commissioner representing the North West Zone.

Tukur’s educational credentials are no less impressive. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Bayero Kano, a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics from the University of Bradford, England, and a Master of Arts from the University of Leeds. His career trajectory has been marked by significant milestones, including his promotion from Assistant Chief Administrative Officer to Director of Election Operations and Logistics, a position he held until December 2023.

Both candidates will face the Senate for approval and, if approved, will play a crucial role in shaping the country’s electoral landscape. Ibiyemi’s experience in electoral management and Tukur’s extensive experience in electoral operations will undoubtedly add value to the commission.
