Broome County announces Operation Green Light.

BROOM COUNTY (WBNG) — Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced the details of Operation Greenlight on Monday.

Operation Greenlight encourages businesses, local governments and residents to illuminate green lights during Veterans Day week to show support for the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces.

The Broome County Executive said the initiative is a collaboration between the New York State County Executives Association and the New York County Veterans Officers Association to show support for veterans of all military conflicts.

Broome County is giving away free green light bulbs to residents so they can put up as many green lights as possible in the community. During normal business hours, they are available at the following locations:

  • Broome County Public Library
  • Broome County Office Building Security Desk
  • Broome West Senior Center
  • Deposit Senior Center
  • Eastern Broome Seniors Centre
  • A center for the elderly in North Broome
  • Visions Veterans Memorial Arena

The office added that all Broome County Senior Centers will also serve free lunches to veterans on Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the exception of the Deposit Senior Center, which will serve lunches on Nov. 14 at 4 p.m.

Visions Federal Credit Union is hosting a free Veterans Expo on November 4th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena where veterans and their families can connect with local resources.
