During a recent episode The pod meets the world podcast with BMW stars Will Friedl, Strong riderand Daniel Fishelthe trio were recapping the infamous Season 5 episode “And Then There Was Sean” when the topic of Friedl’s “super intense” makeover with then-girlfriend Hewitt came up.

In this episode, which parodies various slasher films, the cast—including Eric Matthews Friedl, Topanga Lawrence Fishel, and Sean Hunter Strong—pursues an unknown killer after they become trapped inside a school during detention. At one point, I know what you did last summer star, who plays a new girl at school named Jennifer Love Fefferman, runs into Eric, who starts kissing her.

Although the plot of the episode ultimately turned out to be a dream, in hindsight Friedl, Strong, and Fishel agreed that the Hewitt moment didn’t make sense and was too hot to handle, even though everyone on set knew that the actors saw each other. at that time

“(It was) very tense,” Fishel recalled of the scene between Friedl and the guest star, who briefly dated in 1996. a couple in real life, but does it still make (sense) for the show?'”

For his part, Friedl said watching the podcast again caught him by surprise. “I don’t remember it going as far as where I was like, ‘Oh my God,'” he said. “And then just kissing her neck and stuff. It was seriously, like, wow, this is awkward.” .

The trio suggested that the decision to include the scene in the show was purely for laughs, but they all agreed that it was ultimately inappropriate, as most viewers likely had no idea that the actors had an off-camera relationship.

“It was extremely stressful,” Friedl continued. “And I’ve even had people say to me, ‘Oh, when I was a kid, I didn’t know you guys were together.’ So it was just like, what the hell is going on?”

The kisses ended up being the show’s coolest moment ever. “It’s like total love,” Friedl said. “It’s the most intense makeover we’ve had in seven years of the show, right there in the hallway, and then I’m kissing her neck while she’s trying to talk and everything. Like, we haven’t even said our names yet. It’s intense.”
