The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine has shared the details about the weapons and equipment with which Moscow arms the North Korean troops.

The department said Saturday that Moscow has equipped thousands of North Korean troops in Russia with 60mm mortars, AK-12 rifles, RPK/PKM machine guns, SVD/SVF sniper rifles, Phoenix anti-tank guided missiles and RPG-7.

It is noted that they were also provided with night vision devices, thermal imagers, collimator optical sights and binoculars.

It seems that some of the weapons will be similar to those used by Russian soldiers.

The SVD sniper rifle, also known as the Dragunov, is a semi-automatic Russian infantry sniper rifle “designed to engage enemy personnel and other unarmored targets at a distance of up to 800 meters,” according to manufacturer Kalashnikov Group.

US officials said at a press conference on Thursday that about 8,000 North Korean troops were in the Russian front-line area of ​​Kursk and were expected to enter the war within days.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told the conference that the US believes Russian forces have trained North Korean soldiers in artillery, unmanned aerial vehicles and basic infantry operations.

“We have not yet seen these troops deploy to fight against Ukrainian forces, but we expect these North Korean soldiers to join the fight against Ukraine in the coming days,” he said.

This is the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi urged Western allies to lift restrictions on long-range weapons so that Ukraine could potentially strike pre-emptively against North Korean forces massed in Russia.

“We could strike pre-emptively, if we had the ability to do so, with a long-range strike,” he said. “It depends on our partners.”
