The death of a 28-year-old Winnipeg woman who was found with non-life-threatening injuries downtown Thursday afternoon and later died is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers were called to the 100 block of The Promenade — a street north of Portage Place Mall — shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday for a report of an unresponsive woman.

They discovered that she had injuries incompatible with life and provided medical assistance. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died there, police said in a Saturday news release.

She has been identified as 28-year-old Brianna Close. The police informed her family.

They have not yet made any arrests in connection with her death, and the homicide unit is continuing to investigate. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the unit at 204-986-6508 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
