Humberside Police said the 13-year-old girl who was injured yesterday morning was known to the attackers.

The six teenagers are still being questioned by detectives and the girl remains in hospital after the attack, which happened at around 6.50am on Friday.

The girl, who was stabbed in the neck, abdomen, chest and back, is in a “critical but stable” condition, the police added.

Six teenagers, four boys aged 14, 15, 16 and 17, and two girls, aged 14 and 15, were found in woods near the scene in Hessle yesterday and were detained on suspicion of attempted murder.

They continue to be interrogated.

Leading the investigation, Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers said: “Over the past 24 hours my team has carried out numerous inquiries to establish exactly why this incident happened and to understand the circumstances which led to the attack on a 13-year-old girl in hospital in a critical condition. but stable condition.

“As part of these inquiries, a large security presence was yesterday around a wooded area on Ferriby High Road and also in an area on the A63, Hessle, where the teenage girl was being helped by members of the public. These borders have now been lifted.

“I can confirm that the attackers were aware that the 13-year-old girl and six other teenagers remain in custody and are being questioned by detectives.”
