Chad Alford: Police used ‘reasonable’ force in man’s cocaine-induced death

Chad Alford: Police used ‘reasonable’ force in man’s cocaine-induced death

The IOPC said the actions of the three officers who did not switch on their cameras would be “resolved through a process of reflective practice review”.

It says that the sergeant who conducted the search “must undergo reflective practice.”

Coroner Susan Evans said on Thursday she would write a report into preventing future deaths for Derbyshire Police on the level of expertise needed in such situations.

A police spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Mr Alford’s death, including his family and friends.

“While the IOPC identified performance issues in connection with the activation of body-worn body cameras and the stop and search of another person unrelated to the drug investigation, none of these factors affected the circumstances that led to Mr. Allford’s death.

“We will now take time to carefully review the results of the investigation, as well as the prevention of future death reports, when they are received, and make any necessary changes or improvements.”
