A man facing gun and drug charges has pleaded not guilty

RAISIN. A 20-year-old Racine man pleaded not guilty Thursday to gun and drug offenses in connection with a stop and police chase last month.

Jamar Esho faces one count of possession of a firearm as a convicted felon; one count of possession for the purpose of delivery of cocaine in the amount of one to five grams; one count of possession with intent to deliver between three and 10 grams of designer drugs; one count of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl in an amount less than 10 grams; one count of possession with intent to deliver drugs; one count of resisting or obstructing an officer; and six counts of bail.

Esho is scheduled to appear at a status conference on December 9.

Accusation

According to earlier reports by the Journal Times, a police officer was attempting a traffic stop in the 5300 block of Byrd Avenue when the suspect vehicle slowed and pulled into a parking lot. Esho allegedly exited the vehicle through the passenger door and ran with the backpack to a residence in the 5100 block of Byrd Avenue.

When Esho left the building, he no longer had his backpack and the police detained him.

Police reportedly found 17 pills identified as oxycodone along Esho’s flight path. Police also seized Esho’s backpack, which contained 3.9 grams of a substance that tested positive for cocaine, and dozens of pills that tested positive for MDMA (ecstasy) and fentanyl, weighing 15.4 grams. A 9mm handgun without a serial number was on top of the backpack, the report said.

It is reported that Esho denied the information about what was in the backpack.
