(CBS DETROIT) – A former Westland police sergeant has been convicted of a 2023 incident in which he yelled racial slurs at security guards at the MGM Grand Detroit.

Kevin Yudt, 43, of Grass Lake, was found guilty on two counts of ethnic intimidation and one count of assault and battery. Sentencing is scheduled for December 6.

Judt was fired from the Westland Police Department in May 2023, according to the Michigan attorney general’s office.

Officials say Judta was denied entry into the MGM Grand Detroit casino on August 6, 2023, and told security guards he was a police officer. He then shoved the price tag into his chest and shouted racial slurs.

Judt, who was off-duty and appeared to be intoxicated, also told security, “I’m waiting for you when you get to Westland, and you’re not going to make it,” according to the press release.

He was charged a year after the May 2024 incident.

“No one is above the law, and I applaud the jury for their service and dedication to justice,” Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement. “This type of behavior has no place in our society, especially for those sworn to protect and serve. My office continues to pursue threats of violence and ethnic intimidation to bring those responsible to justice.”
