Suspect reverses as he tries to flee pursuit by Dearborn police

A bizarre Dearborn police chase showed the suspect fleeing in reverse in his car.

It happened Tuesday afternoon after a patrol officer spotted a stolen vehicle at Ford Road and Oakman. The pursuit began in the gas station parking lot.

“I saw a Tastee sign over there (I thought) ‘Wait, I recognize that gas station – that’s my gas station,'” resident Andrew Morhan said.

The policeman on the video recorder: “One man.”

The suspect was driving a stolen vehicle with Florida plates. He continues to reverse with no sign of stopping, clipping the mirrors of several vehicles in the process.

Police dashcam video is something you have to see to believe.

The suspect was bound and determined to escape, managing to avoid a serious accident – and somehow not injuring anyone.

“You just have to assume that people are crazy,” Morhan said. “Also, I guess not to praise him, but you have to be an experienced driver to do that,” he said.

In about a mile it was over. The driver eventually slowed on McGraw near Lonyo, and the suspect put his hand up to the windshield in surrender.

Policeman on video recorder: “He’s stopping, the car has stopped, we’re going to put him down.”

The suspect was detained and a number of charges were brought against him.
