Prosecutors explained to the court on Friday that on June 6, 2023, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to Single vehicle accident on Collier Road. An investigation determined that Hooks drove recklessly up a steep hill into oncoming traffic before losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a tree, the DA’s office said.

A female passenger in Hooks’ vehicle, identified by KCSO as April Satterfield, 35, of Maryville, was killed in the crash.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Hooks fled the scene, but was detained by deputies. He reportedly told them another man was driving the car and fled on foot. However, he later told medical personnel that Satterfield was driving. A forensic examination by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation showed Hooks had a blood alcohol content of 0.17, more than twice the legal limit, and he had methamphetamine and marijuana in his system, the DA’s office said.

“The selfish decisions of this driver left the parents without their daughter and four children
without a mother,” Allen said.
