Crews responded to an apartment building fire in downtown Salt Lake City.

The fire broke out on the third floor of a four-story apartment building at 73 South 400 East just before 3:40 p.m. Thursday.

Salt Lake City Fire Department officials said they responded to reports of a fire in the building.

When they arrived at the scene, they saw smoke coming from the building and called a second brigade.

There are no details on what caused the fire.

Officials said they were able to quickly control the fire and prevent it from spreading.

The building was empty.

One person was examined at the scene with minor injuries and taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The crews who worked at the scene made it difficult for traffic to move. Officials closed 400 East between 100 South and South Temple, but the road is expected to reopen within an hour.

Drivers were advised to look for alternative routes in the meantime.

Officers from the Salt Lake City Police Department responded to the scene to assist firefighters.
