The question we have for Bravemansgame is, can he produce the same form that saw him win the King George VI Chase in 2022? I’m not convinced.

In last season’s showing, it’s hard to see that happening.

This one-time leading Grade 1 chaser looked nothing but his own form last season, even with his runner-up finish at King George 2023.

Either side of his second place in the King George, he was well beaten by Royal Pagaille in the Betfair Chase at Haydock before being put in his place by Galopin De Champs in the Gold Cup and ending the season in a whimper behind Gerry Colomb at Aintree.

There are many reasons to take him at current prices and for me he is a horse whose best days are behind him and one who is vulnerable to a horse on the rise.

He should perform well, but should be taken on his current odds.

The enigmatic gray always looked like he was destined for the top, and he finally put it all together and took to the biggest stage in the Truner Novices’ Chase final at the Cheltenham Festival.

Ahead of the Cheltenham Festival, Gray Downing was beaten on his seasonal comeback and chase debut last season. However, he then showed what he was capable of when he ran away with the title chase at Haydock, beating then National Chase winner Gaillard Du Menil and the popular Apple Away.

A formwork error in the penultimate cost him December’s Cheltenham meeting, but he got back on track with a 14-furlong demolition job at Warwick.

He ended the season by chasing home Ile Etaite Temps at Aintree, which for me is top form.

The vibes from the Skeltons have been strong, and if there’s more to come from this gorgeous gray, it could set a strong mark for the season.

To me he is the one they all have to beat.

This former high-class Grade 1 winner is probably past his best and even though he is a Grade 1 winner over three miles, this trip seems to stretch him to the highest level.

He has the strength to challenge at the finish, having lost it on the final furlong in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal only last season.

But he has now developed a habit of adding mistakes late in the race and this was evident again when he first unseated Jack Kennedy at Punchestown.

With Conflated not even over the first fence at Punchestown, this could be considered his first race of the season. With his sights likely on cross country before his final crack at the Grand National, I’m sure Gordon will have plenty to work on after this run.

If he manages to minimize mistakes, then he will be able to justify it to the younger ones. But the question is how much of this ability remains at the age of ten?

Mouse Morris won last season’s pursuit of Gentelmansgame’s Charlie Hall, and like Gentelmansgame, French Dynamite is underrated here.

As a youngster, French Dynamir showed the ability to assume that Grade 1 wins were in his future, but for one reason or another, that never happened.

He has shown little substance and noteworthy form since second in Ga Law in the Paddy Power Gold Cup in 2022, but has since shown the spark was still there with a convincing second in the Grade 2 PWC Champion Chase at Gowran.

It was then at Punchestown that we finally saw the old French Dynamite.

He had good support before the start and a dominant ride at the front saw him beat former Gold Cup winner Minella Indo and current King Georg Huyck.

The only downside that could happen here is that he has to concede four pounds to all his rivals, but his last win may have helped him turn the corner and if that’s the case, 10/1 looks like value here.

There is every chance that Mouse Morris can beat Charlie Hall with French Dynamite.

Gerry Colomb’s beating has clearly left its mark on The Real Whacker and it’s hard to see him having enough to be involved here.
