KAMPALA, UGANDA | INDEPENDENT | Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) continued to advocate for responsible drinking at this year’s Bell ObaFest through activations and messages on moderation, zero tolerance for drunk driving and environmental sustainability through environmentally friendly waste management.

The 3-day festival collected 2 tons of waste, 56% of which was recycled and 44% recycled into animal feed, according to festival partner Waste Management Asante Waste Management.

The responsible drinking initiative included a variety of engaging activities and delivered key safety messages to highlight the importance of responsible drinking to revelers through short questionnaires and trivia.

As part of the initiative, Uganda Breweries through partnership with Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda distributed over 2,400 bottles of free Rwenzori water, providing hydration at every step and hydration points at all beer service points with water dispensers.

Uganda Breweries Positive Drinking’s Corporate Relations Manager, Brenda Kobutungi, said UBL’s commitment to customer satisfaction goes beyond simply serving great beer to creating a safer and more enjoyable experience for all.

“While people enjoy our wide selection of drinks, we want them to do so carefully and responsibly. For every 2-3 cups of beer, our teams were there to encourage hydration and our Safe Boda partnership came in handy to help prevent drink driving.” said Kobutungi.

Bell Lager Brand Manager Lilian Kansiime welcomed the responsible drinking initiatives, reiterating the importance of safety and moderation when having fun.

“This year’s Bell ObaFest was the perfect combination of entertainment and education, with over 3,000 people participating in our Wrong Side of the Road campaign. We’re proud to bring people together for a great time while emphasizing the importance of safety and moderation.” Kansiime detected.

To entertain festival-goers about drinking responsibly, the event featured a range of games including basketball, football, darts, board games and karaoke.

The winners of these competitions walked away with prizes such as vacuum cups, water bottles, umbrellas and shirts.

One of the bright moments of the festival was the passing of the “survey of 3060 participants”. This interactive drink driving awareness tool allowed attendees to reflect on the consequences of drink driving, raising the festival’s focus on safety and what it means to drink responsibly.

UBL has demonstrated its commitment to promoting a safe and enjoyable festival for all through this ‘Responsible Alcohol Consumption’ initiative.
