2027 Presidency: PDP Chairman Lists 4 Prominent Party Leaders To Fight Tinubu, Share Details

As the 2027 presidential election approaches in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is gearing up for seasoned leaders who are expected to challenge incumbent President Boli Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

These PDP figures who have demonstrated great political and administrative acumen are touted as promising contenders who could change the country’s trajectory.

This was announced by the head of the party David Itokpa Legit.ng on Thursday in Abuja.

Leading PDP figures are likely to contest the race

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakarformer Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki and former governor of Akwa-Ibom Udom Emmanuel stand out as the main contenders within the party.

Besides, Bala Mohammedthe current Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, is expected to play a significant role.

He said:

“These leaders have proven over time that they understand Nigeria’s challenges and know the solutions to address them.

“It is no secret that PDP boasts of some of the best leaders and administrators today.

“They are focused on rescuing the country from the economic and security failures caused by the APC administration.”

Who is Atiku Abubakar?

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a key figure within PDP and the former vice president is expected to contribute his extensive experience in the field of management and economic strategy.

Known for his pro-business approach, Atiku has previously emphasized the importance of restructuring Nigeria and overcoming economic inequality to strengthen the nation.

Who is Bukola Saraki?

Dr. Bukola Saraki who was the President on the 8th National assembly and a former governor of Kwara State is also a prominent contender.

Saraki has earned a reputation as a unifier, with considerable experience in combining legislative and executive functions.

His record of health care reform and education and his efforts to reduce poverty in Kwara are seen as evidence of his reform-oriented approach.

Itokpa said:

“He is one of the few leaders who has consistently worked to address the root causes of poverty and lack of access to quality healthcare.

“Saraki’s leadership skills and reformist approach could be the antidote Nigeria needs.”

Who are Udom Emmanuel and Bala Mohammed?

Former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed are also seen as key PDP candidates who have strong grassroots support.

Emmanuel, known for his successes in industrialization and infrastructural development in Akwa-Ibom, stressed the need for sustainable development models across the country.

Bala Mohammed, meanwhile, has a strong connection with the grassroots and is experienced in security matters as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

PDP will regain its mandate in 2027, says Itopa

Speaking about the 2027 presidential election, Itopa said:

“The upcoming election is more than just a choice between parties.

It is about charting a course that can restore dignity, stability and prosperity to Nigeria. PDP candidates have a clear understanding of this vision and the urgency it requires.”

Tinubu meets PDP senators in Abuja

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Bola Tinubu met with three senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Wednesday, October 30.
