The police detained 8 for kidnapping, others in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested no fewer than eight suspects involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, premeditated murder and other related crimes in the state.

The command’s spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, who presented the suspects before the command’s headquarters in Katsina, said the command arrested 16-year-old Nuha Haruna of Fenza village in Dutsinma Local Government Area in connection with a suspected case of premeditated murder.

Haruna was arrested on October 21, 2024 at around 1:00 PM after a misunderstanding with Rabi Haruna, 40, of the same address, who turned out to be his stepmother.

According to him, the suspect allegedly used a stick and hit the victim in the stomach, which eventually led to her death, adding that the suspect confessed to the crime during the investigation.

The command also arrested Abubakar Nasira alias Haro on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.

The command said the suspect, who had previously been convicted in a rape case, was involved in an ongoing investigation into a criminal conspiracy and kidnapping case, so he was re-arrested.

During investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and also admitted to receiving the sum of two million naira as his share of the proceeds.

“The fact of the matter is that sometime in 2023, the suspect entered into a criminal conspiracy with other suspects who are now at large and attacked Unguwar Maza village, Kafur local community and abducted three (3) victims. A sum of thirteen million naira was paid as a ransom for the release of the victims.

“During investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and also admitted to receiving two (2) million naira as his share of the proceeds.

“Efforts will be continued to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects during the investigation,” the police said.
