Chaim Haberfeld missing for more than a week from Hallandale Beach – NBC 6 South Florida

Friends and family are urging authorities to step up their search for a 36-year-old man who was last seen more than a week ago in Hallandale Beach.

Chaim Haberfeld was last seen before the Jewish holiday last Tuesday near NE 2nd Street and 10th Avenue.

According to the Hallandale Beach Police Department, Haberfeld is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 145 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes. They add that he is known for his trusting nature.

Police say Haberfeld may be in the Miami area and driving a red 2025 Lexus with the license plate BQ3-5RK.

A holiday that is usually celebrated with family and friends has turned into a nightmare for those who know the missing person, like Elan Kornblum.

“It’s like a sick episode of Law and Order for us,” Kornblum said. “Saturday night was the end of the Sabbath and I think it was Sunday morning when I heard the report of the disappearance … and I thought it was a joke.”

But it was very real.

Hallandale police issued a missing persons bulletin explaining that detectives are concerned that Haberfeld may be in contact with people who are using him for criminal purposes.

“All this year the Jewish community has been dealing with people who have gone missing and been kidnapped. I think it’s even more shocking when one of our friends in South Florida goes missing,” Kornblum said.

Haberfeld recently moved to South Florida from New York, and friends say he’s trying his hand at the jewelry business.

“He was a rabbi (supervisor) … in restaurants. Sometimes he deals with watches,” Kornblum said.

Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is asked to call Hallandale Beach Police at 954-457-1432 or 954-457-1400.
