TikTok plans to completely shut down US operations on January 19: report
TikTok is at risk of being shut down in the US

TikTokthe popular social networking app will shut down its services for US users on Sunday, according to a report by The Information. The move comes as a federal ban on the app takes effect unless the Supreme Court steps in to block it.
The potential shutdown would affect all users in the US, unlike the law, which only bans new downloads of TikTok from Apple and Google’s app stores, while allowing existing users to continue using the app for some time.
The report cited sources familiar with the matter as saying that users who try to open the app will see a pop-up message directing them to a website with information about the ban. In addition, TikTok plans to give users the ability to upload their personal data, which will allow them to keep track of their information.
The report, citing unnamed sources, said TikTok’s proactive approach is aimed at addressing concerns about the federal ban and ensuring users are informed of the possible shutdown.
It started when the United States administration passed legislation that forced ByteDance to choose between divesting TikTok or going out of business. U.S. authorities say TikTok enables surveillance in Beijing by collecting data from its users while serving as a channel for spreading propaganda. Both China and ByteDance strongly deny the allegations.
A growing number of American social media influencers are turning to Xiaohongshu, the Chinese social media platform, as the shutdown looms. The app, which translates as Red Note in English, has seen a significant rise in popularity, reaching the number one download position on the Apple App Store on Monday. Users are particularly attracted to its interface, which combines features reminiscent of the Instagram and Pinterest platforms.
