Prof Aning says the last eight years under Akufo-Addo have been “hell” for him.

According to security expert Professor Kwesi Anyinga, the last eight years of Akufo-Addo’s reign have been a “hell” period filled with threats and intimidation aimed at stifling his professional activities.

He made it clear that he was subjected to intimidation, including attempts to embarrass him and threats to his livelihood.

“I could write and speak earlier and I slept soundly,” Professor Aning said. You see, no one threatened me with a pay cut or urged my former employers to fire me. For no other reason than being educated at the expense of the Ghanaian taxpayers, the last eight years have been miserable for me.

Prof Aning expressed hope that the new government would allow him to return to a more conducive environment where he can freely contribute to national security and share his knowledge without worrying about reprisals.

He emphasized that most of all he wants to be able to perform his duties without worrying that he will be intimidated.

Professor Anning has already publicly discussed his experiences with threats. In 2018, he said he had received threatening messages regarding his criticism of security in the media.
