TEWKSBURY, MASS. (WHDH) – A Massachusetts State Police trooper accused of driving under the influence and crashing into another vehicle in Tewksbury on Sunday has resigned, officials said.

Investigators said 27-year-old James Doran was driving under the influence and had alcohol in his car when he allegedly rear end of another driver. He was off duty at the time of the accident.

Two women who were in the crashed car were taken to the hospital.

Doran was arrested. He just graduated from the State Police Academy this month. He was assigned to Troop C in central Massachusetts, where he worked with a field officer.

“Pursuant to department policy, as a member who has left the service after being charged with a felony, Mr. Doran is not eligible for reinstatement,” the Massachusetts State Police said in a statement Wednesday.

Doran pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday.
