Trump campaign sues Pennsylvania county over long voter lines

The Trump campaign filed the lawsuit Wednesday against Bucks County, a densely populated purple county in the pennsylvaniabecause of allegations that county officials were kicking people out of long lines at election commissions.

The campaign referred to in a complaintsued over general complaints that many voters who traveled to Bucks County election offices in recent days to pick up mail-in ballots were not kept in line, a violation of Pennsylvania election code.

Republican Senate candidate David McCormick and Republican National Committee joined the lawsuit.

Voters named in the complaint were allegedly denied mail-in ballots after they tried to use the county’s on-demand voting option, which allows a voter to pick up a mail-in ballot and cast it in person. The deadline for this was Tuesday.

“There were several reports in the days leading up to the last day of the postal-on-demand voting deadline, October 29, that voters were being turned away due to long lines and polling stations closing earlier than indicated when voters were told they would be able to this option,” Republican lawyer Wally Zymolong wrote in the complaint.

Zymolong asked the court to extend in-demand voting in Bucks County until the end of the day Wednesday.

The Trump campaign also cited in a news release a video political director James Blair posted on X showing a long line of voters at an election office waiting to apply for Tuesday’s mail-in ballots. Blair accused poll workers of turning away some people in the queue.

“This is against the law,” Trump’s campaign wrote. “This is the suppression of voters from the left. We will fight for every legitimate vote in Pennsylvania. Go vote and stand in line!”

Governor Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, shared access in an announcement Tuesday about Pennsylvania’s policy that eligible voters who are in line by 5 p.m. are eligible to receive a mail-in ballot.

Both Trump and the vice president treated Pennsylvania Kamala Harriscampaign as a must-win state, and Bucks County, located just above Philadelphia, was one of the state’s most watched counties in the last election.
