BREAKING: Tinubu appoints new Acting Chief of Army Staff, details emerge

State House, Abuja – On Wednesday, October 30, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the new Chief of Army Staff.

Oluyede replaces Lagbaja as the new COAS

This was announced by the president’s spokesman on Wednesday. Bayou Onanuga.

He said Oluyede will lead the COAS until the return of Lt. Gen. Taored Abiodun Lagbaji, who is said to be sick and undergoing treatment abroad.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS),” the statement said.

“Oluyede will hold the position pending the return of the ailing Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taored Abiodun Lagbaji.

Prior to his appointment, Oluyede served as commander of the elite 56th Infantry Corps Nigerian Armybased in Jaja, Kaduna.

Oluyede and Lagbaja, 56, were fellow students and members of the 39th regular course.

In 1992, he received the rank of junior lieutenant, which has been in effect since 1987. He rose to the rank of Major General in September 2020.

Oluyede has held many commands since becoming an officer. He was a platoon commander and adjutant of the 65th battalion, company commander of the 177th Guards Battalion of the Guards Brigade Headquarters, commandant of the landing school.

General Oluyede participated in several operations, including the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) mission in Liberia, Operation HARMONY IV in Bakassi and Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East theater where he commanded the 27th Operational Brigade groups

Oluyede has received many awards for his impeccable service in various fields of activity. These include the Corps Medal of Honor, the Grand Service Star, completion of staff courses and membership in the National Institute.
