Man pleads guilty to 2023 Vicksburg murder

VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – a man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the Vicksburg murder.

Vicksburg Daily News reported Markevius Sturdivant was sentenced to 40 years with 12 years to be served in the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).

Sturdivant, who was 17 at the time of the fatal shooting, was initially charged with first-degree murder.

Execution happened at Waltersville Estates in Vicksburg on April 13, 2023. Vicksburg police said 22-year-old Shemar Jashad Smith was killed in the shooting.
