Boulder County District Attorney spokeswoman Shannon Carbone said Evans received a two-year suspended sentence on the felony charge, allowing him to receive treatment and supervision.

According to the plea, if Evans does not comply with the terms of the sentencing agreement, he will be sentenced in court. If he is able to complete a plea deal, he will have the option to plead guilty.

Evans is scheduled for sentencing on the misdemeanor charge on Feb. 14.

According to the affidavit, at 9:30 p.m. on March 26, a Longmont man received a call from his daughter saying his 7-year-old cat, Domino, had died.

The man reviewed security camera footage in the living room and saw Evans torturing Domino by chasing her around the room and poking her with a stick for about an hour. The footage shows Evans going into another room and coming out with a box.

Evans called the police at the suggestion of his grandfather. Evans told police he began using the cane to “raise” Domino. He told police he poked her with a cane while she was hiding under furniture and said he poked her but didn’t hit her.

Evans told police that Domino was apparently disturbed by this and did not know why he continued to push and chase her when she appeared upset, according to the affidavit. After he chased the cat for about an hour, Evans said Domino started breathing heavily. He said he tried CPR for three minutes before realizing she was dead.

Evans said he did not intend to kill Domino and denied harming other animals, including another cat in the home. Evans showed up at the Longmont Police Department, and officers found Domino dead in a box with blood on her mouth.
