An American imprisoned in Russia was sentenced to a new 15 years in prison for espionage

MOSCOW. A US citizen of Russian descent who was already in prison in Russia on bribery charges has received a second 15-year prison term for espionage, Russian news agencies reported on Tuesday.

A Moscow court charged Gen Spector with espionage in August 2023, although details of the case have not been made public.

Previously, Spektor, a former head of a medical equipment manufacturing company in Russia, was sentenced in September 2022 to 3.5 years in prison for bribing an aide to former Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. Assistant Anastasia Alekseeva was sentenced to 12 years in April for accepting bribes for two expensive trips abroad.

In 2012-2018, Dvorkovich was deputy prime minister under Dmitry Medvedev. Currently heads the international chess federation FIDE.
