An Augusta man is accused of assaulting a woman

AUGUST. An Augusta man who allegedly punched a woman in the head, hit her so hard she fell and threatened to kill her on Oct. 16 has been charged with domestic violence.

Dustin E. Gay, 41, of Augusta, was indicted by a Kennebec County grand jury on two counts of domestic violence aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence assault and one count of domestic violence criminal threatening.

The woman he allegedly assaulted said he punched her in the head, punched her in the face so hard she lost her balance and fell, and held a charging cord around her neck and told her he was going to kill her. During the interview, police noticed she had a red spot on her neck and blood on her head around an earring and she was limping, according to an affidavit filed by Augusta Police Officer Eric Maheu.

The woman also initially said that the man hit her with his car, injuring her leg. She later denied those allegations in a statement to police and said he followed her in his car as she was walking and she thought he was going to hit her. She said he stopped and tried to get her into the car, but she backed away, tripped and injured her ankle.

She later told police he punched her in the ankle.

One of the two counts of aggravated domestic violence against which Gay was charged, however, alleges that he “intentionally, knowingly or recklessly caused bodily injury” to the woman “using a dangerous weapon, a motor vehicle.” .” Category “B” crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years.

The incidents allegedly took place on July 21 in Augusta after the couple visited several bars and restaurants in the city and got into an argument, both during the outing and after they returned home.
