Congress reacts to FIR against Rahul Gandhi – The Week

The Congress has reacted to the FIR filed against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi in connection with the scuffle in Parliament, saying it is a mark of respect.

In a post on X, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said the FIR against Rahul Gandhi was a diversionary tactic in response to his strong protest against Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B. R. Ambedkar.

The FIR was registered at the police station on Parliament Street under articles 117 (intentionally causing grievous bodily harm), 115 (intentionally causing bodily harm), 125 (acts that threaten the life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal offense). intimidation) and 3(5) (general intention) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

“The case against him for protecting Babasaheb’s legacy is a mark of honour. In any case, Rahul Gandhi is already facing 26 FIRs due to BJP’s political vendetta and this latest FIR will not stop him or the Congress from opposing the casteist RSS-BJP regime,” he said.

Venugopal also asked why the Delhi Police did not take action on the FIRs filed by women INC MPs against BJP leaders who physically assaulted them.

Congress MPs will also protest outside the Parliament building on Friday against Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks about B. R. Ambedkar.

However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla banned demonstrations by MPs and political parties outside any Parliament gate on Thursday after political protests led to a fight.

“Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has issued strict instructions that no political party, Member of Parliament or groups of members will hold any dharnas and demonstrations at the gates of Parliament House,” sources in Parliament said.
