Estonia took the Russian diplomat to account over the border incident on the Narva River – World

VILNIUS, October 29. /TASS/. Estonia’s foreign ministry invited Russia’s charge d’affaires Lennar Salimullin to express its displeasure with Russia’s position on the border line along the Narva River after Russia removed some border buoys from the waterway in May. ERR the national broadcaster reports.

“For decades, both sides have agreed on the current course of the waterway, and thus on the temporary line of control between Estonia and Russia. This made it possible to establish clear and safe navigation zones for all vessels on the Narva River,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported. the statement says. However, Russia refused to measure the bottom of the river to clarify shipping channels, Tallinn claimed.

In July, ERR reported that Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered to work with Russia to conduct measurements on the Narva River, which is the demarcation line between the two countries. The Estonian side argued that the conditions in the reservoirs could have changed over the past decades, and the shipping channels could have been interpreted differently by the parties.

The issue of agreeing the middle course of the river came to the fore after the countries were embroiled in disputes over buoys installed on the river. As ERR reports, in the morning of May 23, the Russian side removed 25 buoys, which it claimed were installed in Russian waters by Estonia. Tallinn, however, rejects these accusations and hopes to resolve the dispute through joint measurement.
