Four-legged “therapists” lead the North River Fire Department

PALMETTO, Fla. (WWSB) – After the devastating storms that hit the Sun Coast, one organization thanked our local first responders. Dogs Inc sent dozens of cuddly pups to several fire stations across the region on Monday for National First Responder Day.

The organization wanted to heal the first responders who had done so much over the past few months.

At the North River Fire District in Palmetto, four dogs were playing with rescuers and employees this morning. The head of the station expressed gratitude for the love these puppies give.

“I’m telling you, it takes your mind off things even for a minute,” Chief Joseph Sickler said. “We’re here for the community 24/7, have everything they need, but it’s been pretty busy,” the chief said.

The station has its own guide dog from Dogs Inc. His name is Drew, and they tell ABC7 that Drew brings them a lot of comfort during difficult times.

“It reminds you that there’s a lot of positivity in life,” said Emily Dombrowski, director of animal services at Dogs Inc. “They can help bring resilience to people who are doing really hard work,” the director said.
