Summit County Medical Examiner Identifies Teen Killed in Halloween Party Shooting

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – The Summit County Medical Examiner has identified the 18-year-old girl killed in a shooting at an Akron Halloween party that left two other teenagers injured Saturday night.

On Monday, the Summit County Medical Examiner identified the slain teenager as Lasha Ellis of Akron.

According to an Akron police report, officers responded to a shooting at a Halloween party at a home in the 100 block of Paris Avenue around 10:46 p.m. Saturday.

Arriving officers found Ellis critically injured with an apparent gunshot wound.

Akron police also found a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the two fled the scene after the shooting.

The younger teenagers are expected to recover, police said, but Ellis was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The names of the victims are not being released pending further investigation.

According to preliminary data, during the Halloween celebration in the house, an unknown man took out a weapon and, while in the house, fired shots, hitting the teenagers.

Officers apprehended an 18-year-old man after a short foot chase and recovered a handgun he had discarded while running from police.

However, it is currently unknown what role (if any) the man played in the shooting.

The police charged the man with concealed carrying of a weapon and obstruction of official business.

Officers took him to the Summit County Jail, where he was booked, according to the report.

Akron police said the investigation is still in its early stages as detectives work to identify the shooters.
