A New York woman has been charged with grand theft after using a company card

A New York woman has been charged with 2nd degree grand larceny after she said she used a corporate credit card to make unauthorized transactions, police say. The alleged personal shopping spree lasted about a year and ended up costing the company she worked for more than fifty thousand dollars.

According to the website, if the value of the stolen property exceeds $50,000, a person can be charged with Class “C” grand larceny, which carries a sentence of up to fifteen years in prison. Criminal Prosecutor Jason Bassett.

New York State Police said in a press release that on Oct. 23, state police arrested a 53-year-old Troy woman for 2nd-degree theft and 1st-degree fraud scheme.

Officials say officers received a complaint on Sept. 20 from a company in Troy that said a former employee had misused a corporate credit card.

The investigation determined that the suspect worked for the company and allegedly used the company’s corporate credit card to make purchases unrelated to business needs from the summer of 2023 to the summer of 2024 without permission or authorization.

Those purchases were reportedly made for the suspect’s personal gain and cost the company more than $50,000, according to state police.

The suspect was arrested, charged and later released to the supervision of the county probation department.
