An Abilene man was killed in a bar shooting Sunday morning

Police are investigating the murder, which happened early Sunday morning.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a shooting at Spanky P’s Bar in the 2400 block of South Seventh Street.

Arriving at the scene, the first rescuers found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound, the police report said. He was taken to Hendrick Hospital, where he later died.

Next of kin were notified and the man was identified as Hayden Smith of Abilene.

Investigators responded, collected evidence and spoke with witnesses. As a result of the investigation, the police determined that an altercation broke out inside the bar between at least two people, the report said.

A second altercation took place in the parking lot of the bar, where Smith was later shot dead.

Law enforcement officers have identified the person and are asking for the help of citizens to gather additional information.
