GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man is accused of trying to run over a Greenville County deputy before going on a chase and ramming several patrol cars early Monday morning.

Investigators said they were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Waffle House parking lot on Roper Mountain Road shortly after 1 a.m.

According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies arrived at the scene, 42-year-old Nathan Tamaya Paul attempted to run over the deputy before leaving the area.

Deputies later located the vehicle and began a pursuit. The sheriff’s office said Paul used his vehicle to ram several patrol cars.

Greenville County deputies were able to pull over Paul’s vehicle on Butler Road and he was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Investigators said Paul initially gave his brother’s name and date of birth as an alias before they discovered his true identity.

Paul was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, assault on an officer while resisting arrest, reckless driving, driving under suspension and several drug charges.

The deputy involved in the first incident at Waffle House received minor injuries.
