PM ‘shocked’ by CCTV footage of Mike Amesbury MP hitman

The Prime Minister said the emergence of a video showing MP Mike Amesbury punching a man to the ground was “shocking”.

Mr Amesbury was suspended from the party and stripped of the Labor Party after the CCTV footage emerged on Sunday.

Sir Keir Starmer said the party had reacted “very quickly” after the footage was released.

He added: “There is now a police investigation going on and in the circumstances, as you will understand, there is nothing more I can say about it.”

Cheshire Police said the 55-year-old man was voluntarily interviewed in connection with the incident and has since been released pending further enquiries.

Footage obtained by the Daily Mail shows Runcorn MP and Helsby continuing to beat the man as he lies in the street.

Amesbury has been contacted for comment.

Another video posted on X allegedly shows Amesbury shouting and swearing at a man lying in the street in Frodsham, Cheshire.
