The vigil planned to mark one year since the brutal beating of Queen Creek teenager Preston Lord

QUEEN CREEK, Arizona (AZ Family) — A vigil is planned for Monday night to mark one year since the brutal attack that left a Queen Creek teenager dead.

The Light the Night event, dedicated to the memory of Preston Lord, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Fr Frontier Family Park in Queen Creek.

A year ago, on Saturday, October 28, 2023, a 16-year-old teenager was badly beaten outside a Halloween party in the Queen Creek area. He died two days later at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

On November 1, 2023, Queen Creek police announced that Lord’s death was being investigated as a homicide and served multiple search warrants over the following days. On November 14, the FBI joined the investigation, and police said there were “multiple persons of interest.” was identified.

At the end of December, QCPD filed referring charges against seven juveniles and an adult to the Maricopa County District Attorney’s Office. Maricopa County District Attorney Rachel Mitchell said nearly a month later that her office still browsing over 2,000 digital pieces of evidence, including over 600 videos.

Feb. 15 Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office officially ruled The Lord’s death is murder. The report states that the teenager died from multiple blunt force injuries.

Almost three weeks later, on March 6, Mitchell announced that four people was charged for murder Three others charges were filed the following day, bringing the number of suspects to seven.

  • Kidnapping
  • Aggravated robbery

William Owen Hines

  • First degree murder (and/or second degree murder as an alternative)
  • Kidnapping

Jacob Meisner

  • First degree murder (and/or second degree murder as an alternative)
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Kidnapping

Talan Renner

  • First degree murder (and/or second degree murder as an alternative)
  • Kidnapping

Taylor Sherman

  • First degree murder (and/or second degree murder as an alternative)
  • Kidnapping

Dominic Turner

  • First degree murder (and/or second degree murder as an alternative)
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Kidnapping

Tallinn vigil

  • First degree murder (and/or second degree murder as an alternative)
  • Kidnapping

Investigators say some of the teenagers are also linked to other incidents of teen violence in the East Valley.

Five of the seven suspects in Lord’s death are divorced. The court session is tentatively set for 07/21/2025.
