Meryl Streep thanks ‘Only Murder in the Building’ co-writer for writing her romantic scenes ‘at this age’ | Web series

In a touching moment shared on the set of Only Murder in the Building, co-creator and showrunner John Hoffman revealed how Meryl Streep tearfully thanked him for the romantic scenes between her character and Martin Short. This heartfelt exchange took place while filming Season 3, highlighting the show’s impact on its famous cast. According to the deadline, in interview on the eve of the Season 4 finale, John recalled a night spent filming on a ferry in Manhattan.

“Meryl had tears in her eyes”

“We were shooting until about two in the morning on the most luxurious night,” John recalls. Turning around, he found Meryl waiting for him by the gangway, visibly moved. “She had tears in her eyes and said, ‘I just had to wait here until you get off the boat to say thank you,'” he said, according to the newspaper.

Meryl expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to portray romantic scenes at this point in her career, saying, “I just got to do a scene that I really didn’t think I would get a chance to do. To do romantic scenes at that age with this group is just the best thing ever.”

Loretta’s love story

John recalled the profound experience, stating, “I felt like the luckiest guy in the world when she was anywhere near the set I was with.” He also expressed hope that viewers will pick up on the chemistry between Meryl’s character, Loretta, and Martin’s character, Oliver, as the actors will enjoy working together.

As the romance arc unfolds between Loretta and Oliver, John noted, “It’s one of the most unexpected twists. I remember thinking, “Oh my God.” When I met Meryl and Marty and watched them work together, it was incredible, we were laughing our heads off and they just adored each other on screen, off screen in every way.”
