Brockton man pleads guilty to manslaughter in 2018 death of 21-year-old man

PLYMOUTH. A Brockton man pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of involuntary manslaughter A 2018 shooting that left a 21-year-old man deadofficials said.

Andrew Timek, 26, pleaded guilty Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Plymouth Superior Court to one count each of involuntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, vehicular injury, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded weapon. firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruise reported in a written statement.

The charges relate to June 8, 2018. the shooting of 21-year-old Anthony Baker. Baker was shot near his home on Intervale Street on Brockton’s north side.

Timek and co-defendant Christopher Nogueira, 27, of Tauntonboth were charged with involvement in the fatal incident.

What happened on the day of the murder

Just after 6:00 p.m. on June 8, 2018, Brockton Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting on Arthur Street. After arriving at 10 Arthur St., Brockton police found Baker “lying and unresponsive” in the street, the DA’s office said. Emergency medical personnel took him to Good Samaritan Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Baker, known to his family as “Junior,” was returning home to his apartment on Intervale Street when he was shot. his mother told The Enterprise in 2018.

Brenda Baker said she ran across the street when she heard the shots and watched as her son took his last two breaths.

“I said, ‘Junior, please open your eyes and breathe,'” Brenda Baker said.

Police investigation

Brockton police contacted Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and a homicide investigation began. In the course of the investigation, the police found out that the victim and Timek knew each other before, and the men and their circle of acquaintances had an ongoing quarrel, the prosecutor’s office said in a written statement.

District Attorney Beth Stone said this in 2018 State police detectives and Brockton police worked “around the clock” in the hours after the shootingg.

When he was charged in 2018, the district attorney’s office said: “the drive-by shooting was the result of an ‘ongoing feud’ over ex-girlfriends between Timek and Baker.

Co-accused Taunton was found not guilty

Christopher Nogueira was originally charged in 2018 one count each of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building.

A Plymouth County jury found Nogueira not guilty of all charges related to the Nov. 27 fatal shooting in Brockton Superior Court, prosecutors said in a written statement.

Timek’s verdict

Superior Court Judge William Sullivan sentenced Timek to 15 to 18 years in state prison.

Second Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague prosecuted the Timek case, which was investigated by state police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and the Brockton Police Department.
