Oakland County man arrested for 3D printing guns and illegal firearms accessories

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – A man is behind bars in Oakland County for allegedly 3D printing handguns and illegal firearm accessories.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was arrested for having a concealed AR-15 rifle while he was in custody on a firearms charge.

During the investigation, authorities learned that the man was engaged in 3D printing, installation and sale of weapons conversion devices. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said the devices convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic weapons.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the converters are used in crimes such as drive-by shootings.

The sheriff also said that during the search, authorities found a 3D printer, a 3D-printed gun and 13 conversion devices.

Formal charges are expected to be announced this week.
