Man jailed for roadside assault on victim, who was also stripped and filmed

SINGAPORE – A man who attacked the male victim on October 28, the suspect in an extramarital relationship with the attacker’s niece was sentenced to four years and four months in prison.

The 55-year-old attacker, identified in court documents as A1, also assaulted his own niece in the 2020 road rage incident.

A1, the last person involved in the attack to be tried in court, was also fined $2,000.

Previously, A1’s son, the son’s girlfriend and the niece’s husband, who also participated in the attack, were examined in court.

All parties involved in this case cannot be named due to a victim’s restraining order.

After a trial, District Judge Kok Shu-En found A1 guilty of one count each of criminal intimidation and incitement to distribute intimate images.

A1 also pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and one count of disorderly conduct.

The niece, identified as V1, and her 42-year-old estranged husband were going through divorce proceedings at the time of the attack.

Shortly before the incident took place, all four criminals suspected that V1, who was 37 years old at the time, was having an affair with the male victim, identified as PW4, who was also 37 years old at the time.

At around 22:00 on 7 February 2020, they gathered outside the woman’s house and saw her getting into PW4’s car. They decided to follow the car in different vehicles.

The court documents do not state whether V1 actually had an affair with PW4.

PW4 was on his way to the Woodlands Checkpoint when his car was sandwiched between the man’s car behind and the car of A1’s 24-year-old son driving in front.

A1’s son and husband then came down to confront PW4. A1’s son also told his 23-year-old girlfriend to record the incident on her mobile phone and she agreed.

When PW4 got out of his car on the man’s orders, A1’s husband and son started beating PW4, shouting obscenities at him.
