CCTV footage shows a Kanpur woman hitting the gym hours before she was killed by her trainer

A Kanpur woman whose dead body was recovered from a posh neighborhood went to the gym and even spoke to several people on the day her trainer killed her, CCTV footage released by NDTV showed on Monday.

Police found the dead body of the victim, who was the wife of a prominent businessman, in a pit near the camp office-residence of the District Magistrate here on Civil Lines, PTI reported on Sunday.

According to the news agency, gym trainer Vimal Soni was in a relationship with the victim, identified as Ekta Gupta. The situation between them escalated when Soni decided to marry another girl. Gupta and Soni had a falling out a few days before his engagement.

What did the CCTV footage of the Kanpur murder victim show?

The CCTV footage, originally published by NDTV, shows 32-year-old Ekta Gupta strolling around the gym wearing a red T-shirt and sweatpants. She was also holding a bottle of water and a gym bag and was also seen talking to several people in the gym before leaving the venue.

After leaving the gym, Ekta went to a secluded place with Vimal to discuss their relationship. Later, they had a heated argument which escalated into physical violence by Vimal, who punched her in the neck, resulting in her death.

“On June 24, Vimal took Ekta from the gym and went to a secluded place to discuss their relationship. A heated argument ensued during which Vimal punched Ekta on the neck, leading to her death,” PTI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrawan Kumar Singh as saying.

After her murder, Vimal chose a place that was unimaginable to many to dispose of her body and avoid arrest. He buried Ekta’s body near the camp office of D.M.
