Jake Paul deletes Tommy Fury’s wallet post for ill-fated rematch | Boxing sport

Social media phenomenon-turned-boxer Jake Paul has sparked further controversy by claiming that Tommy Fury turned down a whopping £6.3m for the rematch only to withdraw his claim later.

In their first match last year in Saudi Arabia, Fury defeated Paul by split decision, ending their bitter rivalry. The duo had arranged two previous fights, both of which were called off at the 11th hour due to Fury’s injury and visa issues; however, their third attempt went as planned. During the fight, Fury demonstrated excellent boxing skills, effectively keeping his distance, throwing punches and sharp lines.

However, “TNT” ran into some obstacles in the final round, getting knocked down by a powerful left hand from “Problem Child”. Despite Paul’s first professional loss, there was talk of a rematch among fans. There are rumors about it Netflix might be willing to shell out a dime for a second fight to take place. In a tweet he has since deleted, Paul, 27, said: “Offered Fury $8m to fight Netflix. He gave it up and is now fighting an MMA fighter… Now tell me who is running? A stupid dad controls the child, protects him from the inevitable.”

After the loss, “Problem Child” came back and defeated former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in Texas. “I’m sorry I didn’t knock him out,” Paul said after the fight, his entourage nodding in agreement that he had followed the honorable path of not putting the 58-year-old icon on the floor. He also admitted that he held back when he noticed that Tyson was weakening as the fight progressed.

“After I saw him tired, I didn’t want to hurt him too much, but I wanted the fans to have a good experience,” he added. “But there was a moment when my aggression and cruelty went away when I was not beaten. I love Mike.”

Fury, meanwhile, has not been in the ring since defeating YouTuber KSI in October 2023. However, he is preparing to face Darren Till on January 18 at Manchester’s Co-Op Live. Speaking about the upcoming fight, Fury said: “It’s great to finally be back! I’ve been out of the ring for too long.”

“My knuckles are starting to itch, so I’m excited to announce my comeback, headlining a massive event in my hometown and in front of my fans. Till has had a good career in the UFC, but now he’s stepping into the boxing ring against a true professional, and he’s going to quickly realize that he’s out of his depth, and that’s not the game for him to fight in 2025.”
