A man in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh was arrested for posing as an IAS officer and threatening to kill a woman if she did not marry him, PTI reported quoting police.

A case against the accused, one Deepak Kumar, was registered at the Chinhat police station on November 30 based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.

Kumar first contacted the victim, an undergraduate law student, through WhatsApp in 2020, telling her that he hailed from East Champaran district in Bihar. He also sent her his Aadhaar details.

According to the complaint, the accused claimed that he had completed his B.Tech degree from Haryana. He also said that he was selected for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) an officer undergoing training in Delhi.

The victim later found out that Kumar actually worked in a private company in the capital of the country and specialized in computer-related work.

He allegedly hacked girls’ phones and threatened them to marry him. Kumar has already cheated two or three girls and the case against him is being investigated, as stated in the complaint.

The LLB student’s mother said her daughter did not know Kumar personally and there was no discussion between their families about marriage.

Kumar repeatedly sent abusive and threatening text messages to the complainant’s relatives to induce them to marry.

With greed for her property, he allegedly tried to kidnap the LLB student and forcefully marry her, the complainant said.

The victim’s mother also alleged that the accused had threatened several times, including that he would pour acid or petrol on the LLB student and burn her alive if she did not marry him.

Kumar also allegedly threatened to kidnap and behead the victim.

A case has been registered against Kumar under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to cause disturbance), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to offend the modesty of a woman), police said. and the IT (Amendment) Act.

However, the suspect has not yet been arrested, the police said.
