Two people died as a result of the crash of a small plane

JESSAMINE, Ky. (WKYT) – Authorities are investigating a small plane crash in Jessamine County.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. Sunday in a field near Ashgrove and involved a single-engine paraglider, the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Grimes says that shortly before 6 p.m., someone spotted a plane that appeared to have crashed and called 911.

Sheriff Grimes says first responders arrived on the scene within minutes of the 911 call and quickly determined the two people on board were dead.

According to him, a man and a woman, who were probably husband and wife, died in the accident. Their names have not yet been released.

According to Sheriff Grimes, the male pilot was an experienced pilot and had been flying for approximately 20 years.

A pre-trial investigation is underway. The sheriff’s office says the NTSB and FAA have been notified of the crash.

The NTSB is expected to arrive at the crash site Monday morning to begin an investigation.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to avoid the area until further notice.

This is an evolving story.
