Two police officers allegedly ran an illegal nightclub in Jamaica Square

Prosecutors said the alleged nightclub was located at 360B Center Street in Jamaica Square.

Prosecutors have charged a Boston police officer and a Boston Health Commission campus police officer with allegedly running an illegal nightclub in a Jamaica Plain basement, according to court documents.

BPD Officer Richard McDermott and BPHC Campus Police Officer Luigi D’Addieco allegedly operated an “illegal after-hours nightclub” at 360B Center Street. Officers originally rented the basement to operate the HVAC system, but prosecutors said they allegedly turned it into a nightclub during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prosecutors say the club charged a cover charge, had a bouncer, more than $100 bottle service, a DJ, hookah service and promoters promoting the club on social media. The two allegedly operated the club for “several months” without having a liquor license, according to the documents. Prosecutors said McDermott’s financial statements showed “large amounts of purchases” at local liquor stores.

McDermott is charged with intimidation of witnesses, using a criminal record under false pretenses and creating a public nuisance, his indictment said. Prosecutors also charged D’Addiecco with concealing evidence in a criminal proceeding and creating public nuisance.

Both suspects pleaded not guilty Thursday, Oct. 24, and were released without bail, court documents said. Representatives for both suspects did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

BPD confirmed Boston Globe they suspended McDermott without pay after the indictment. BPHC said it was aware of the allegations and placed D’Addiecco on “administrative leave.”

2021 A quarrel outside the club alerted the authorities

A statement of facts filed in court details the 2021 altercation outside the club. The report states that on July 10, 2021, a person involved in an altercation allegedly fired several shots into the front door of the club. A bouncer who was working that night was shot multiple times and taken to a local hospital for treatment, the report said.

Boston police responded to the incident, according to the report. Officers said they found McDermott inside the establishment and said some officers recognized him. McDermott told officers he had attended his brother-in-law’s party, the report said. However, footage from the night allegedly shows McDermott in the club stepping over blood and broken glass left by the shooting.

The video also shows D’Addieco’s car driving down Central Street after the shooting and parking outside the club. Prosecutors said D’Addico and McDermott called each other several times on the night of the shooting.
