Two arrested in Lowell after standoff with authorities

LOWELL, Ohio (WTAP) – Two men were taken into custody after a standoff in Lowell, Ohio on 5th Street.

According to the Washington County Sheriff, Thomas L. Schenk of Lowell was arrested after he barricaded himself in his residence with a gun and had a standoff with the Special Response Team.

The call came in at 4:14 p.m., resulting in a standoff. Negotiations were conducted, the subject was taken into custody, and the firearm was recovered.

Authorities had reason to believe that one shot was fired from the house.

Everyone in the community was isolated and there was no longer a threat to the public.

Shenk is currently being transported to the hospital.

During the incident, Tony Whitekind of Lowell showed up drunk and armed.

He was arrested for possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

Whitekind is currently in the Washington County Jail.
