Man admits to breaking into 1,000 houses: ‘It relieves my stress’

Japanese police recently arrested a 37-year-old man who admitted to breaking into more than 1,000 homes, describing it as an unusual way to deal with stress. Authorities detained him on Monday for allegedly trespassing on a property in Dazaifa, located in southern Japan, a police official confirmed to AFP.

The Mainichi Shimbun reported the man’s statement: “Breaking into other people’s houses is my hobby and I’ve done it over 1,000 times.” He then explained, “I get so excited that my palms are sweating wondering if someone is going to catch me and it helps relieve my stress.” as quoted by the police.

In another bizarre case that has caught the attention of the Internet, authorities are investigating the case of a deceased teenager who was prosecuted posthumously. Her suicide also accidentally caused the death of another woman, sparking debate about the unusual trial.

A tragic incident occurred on August 31, when a teenager jumped from the 12th floor of a building, landed on a pedestrian and caused the death of both people. The victim, 32-year-old corporate professional Chikako Chiba, was walking with three friends when the teenager fell on top of her.

Police say the teenager was old enough to understand the potential risk of endangering others below and have sought formal charges against her despite her death. The move drew widespread criticism, with many calling it a wasteful and unnecessary use of resources, according to reports Japan today.

Comment to Japan today website summarized the public outrage: “The pursuit of a dead girl is the ultimate in government folly—bureaucrats so obsessed with enforcing their rigid, antiquated rules that they’ve completely lost touch with common sense and human decency.”
