LI pro Jason Caron earned a spot on the golf circuit of champions

Mill River pro Jason Caron shot a 68 in the final round of the Simmons Bank Championship on the Champions Tour on Sunday, securing a spot in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and an exemption from the tour in 2025.

Caron finished third, three shots behind winner Padraig Harrington at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock, Arkansas. Caron made his only two bogeys of the week, both in the final round, but made six birdies, including the deciders at 15 and 16, to move him up to 35th in the Schwab Cup standings, where the top 36 advance to the championship final in two weeks in Phoenix and guarantee themselves tour status next year.

Despite his newfound success on the Champions Tour, Caron, 52, says he won’t be on the tour full-time and intends to stay in Mill River, where his wife, Liz, also teaches.

“Nothing will change when it comes to my job,” Caron said. “I’m going to stay in Mill River. I don’t want to do it full time. The only thing it would make me do is be more aware of what events I can participate in next year. I could play in any tournament I wanted. Probably, I would get to 10-15 tournaments.”

Caron has played in nine Championship Tour events this year after coming into the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in May when he tied for fourth and was the low-ranked club pro. This earned him a new kitchen from the tournament sponsor. He also finished third in the Rogers Charity Classic and won more than half a million dollars this season.
