CFMEU: Labour’s claim of ignorance about union thuggery ‘remarkable’: ex-ABCC boss

The former chairman of the construction industry watchdog has ridiculed claims by the Labor government that he was unaware of the CFMEU’s underworld links, saying he had repeatedly warned parliament over two decades about the union’s links to bikers and organized crime.

Former Australian Building and Construction Commission commissioner Nigel Hedgekiss has called for the return of the industry watchdog with new punitive powers against unions to tackle illegal takeovers of the construction industry.
