New event created for teens at Bettendorf Public Library promotes interest in environmental protection and conservation

BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) – A new event created by teens for teens will help future leaders increase their interest in environmental protection and conservation by giving them the opportunity to meet like-minded people and community organizers.

The Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive, will host its first Teen Summit on Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to a news release from event organizers. This is a free event created by the library’s Teen Leadership Committee, a group of enthusiastic teens who work with library staff to improve services and programs.

The summit will be held on the second floor of the library, organizers said. It will be a one-stop destination for 12-18 year olds from across the area to access volunteer opportunities, explore hobbies and learn about job options.

The Teen Environment Summit will feature local experts from organizations such as: iLivehere, a program run by the Scott County Waste Commission, Partners of Scott County Watersheds and the Iowa Wildlife Federation, event organizers said. The event will also include trivia, crafts in the library’s art studio, and a brainstorming session for teens from various schools and environmental clubs to share ideas on how they can help shape the environmental movement in ATV cities.
