Jermain Defoe says ArsenalThe attacking style of the game reminds him Arsene Wenger‘s Invincibles after a 5-2 win against West Ham on Saturday evening.

Mikel ArtetaThe team produced another impressive performance in the first half, with defender Gabriel Magalhas opening the scoring with a header from a corner after only 10 minutes.

Leandro Trossard completed a well-worked move to double Arsenal’s lead before Martin Odegaard added a third from the penalty spot. Kai Havertz then made it 4-0 when he pounced on Trossard’s superb through ball to slot past Lukasz Fabianski.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and an Emerson free-kick restored West Ham’s pride, but Bukayo Saka scored Arsenal’s fifth goal from the penalty spot in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time.

The win puts Arsenal second in the Premier League table and six points behind Liverpool, although Arne Slott’s side can extend their lead if they beat Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

“The way Arsenal are playing now, it reminds me of the Invincibles when you had Thierry Henry, Ashley Cole, Robert Pires, where they were always freeing up the left side of the pitch, very unselfishly,” Defoe told Premier League Productions. .

“You saw a lot of Arsenal goals then, when they were setting up positions, players going through and into an empty net, it’s really unselfish.”

Defoe also believes Arsenal have the self-belief needed to help them pounce on any mistakes Liverpool make in the title race.

“Liverpool are flying now, playing good football, winning games,” Defoe said.

“But I think Arsenal are just focusing on their wins. When you score a lot of goals and play the way you play, you can’t wait for the next game and it doesn’t matter who you’re playing against because you just believe you’re going to get to the next game and you’re just going to win.

“They (Arsenal) seem to have an atmosphere at the moment where they are scoring a lot of goals, everyone is playing well, everyone is contributing. So I could imagine that no matter who they play next, they will believe that they will just keep winning.

“I think Arsenal have been like that for the last couple of seasons, they’ve had little flashes here and there, which is normal throughout the season, but I think mostly you’ve seen with Arsenal on their day, score five -six goals, because in the forward areas they have such high quality.

“The way the manager wants to play, his attention to detail, from what you hear, he likes to train, spends hours and hours training, he ticks all the boxes, so you expect them to be like that.”
